Inheritance is a term that can be used to describe property, traditions and even genetics that are passed down from previous generations. It could be an heirloom like your grandmother’s gold locket or your father’s tool collection. It might be a family recipe that has been passed down for generations or even the freckles on your nose.
Inheritance has various meanings and connotations. Webster defines it as
1.) the act of inheriting property;
2.) the reception of genetic qualities by transmission from parent to offspring;
3.) the acquisition of a possession, condition or trait from past generations.
This year’s theme asks you to contemplate inheritance. You can think of this personally, locally or even globally. The point is to explore the many possibilities that inspire you to portray the idea.
Everyone comes to this prompt with different experiences so the interpretations will be various. This theme provides an opportunity for students to be self-reflective or to be observational of their world.
